Keep Your Cool: Essential Fan Maintenance Tips for the Rest of Summer!

Convection cooling involves moving air over the cow's body to remove heat, and fans are an effective way to achieve this. For fans to be effective, the necessary wind speed at the cow's level—2 feet in height while in the stall—should be 2 m/s. This can initially be achieved with the right number of fans, proper placement, and correct installation angle. However, maintaining this optimal airspeed over the long term requires regular upkeep of your ventilation system.

With summer in full swing, it's vital to maintain your barn's fans. Here's a maintenance checklist to ensure optimal performance:

  • Regularly check the belts.

  • Grease the belt tensioners.

  • Lubricate the central bearings.

  • Dust off the fan blades.

    • Dust accumulation can create an imbalance, leading to uneven wear on the bearings and belts. This imbalance can cause the belts to rest in one spot more frequently, leading to faster wear. Keeping your fans clean and well-maintained not only enhances efficiency but also extends the lifespan of your equipment.
